  • 15:33:54: @sewdotcoe Oh, the caulking game! It's almost as fun as the spackle game! Does your caulk change color when it dries?
  • 15:34:16: We are just nearly settled in for realsies. Hope this means I can work on fic with some abandon this week.
  • 15:57:58: "wine drinking communist dick suck" has replaced "cheese eating surrender monkeys" as my favorite insult.
  • 17:50:22: @sewdotcoe Maybe. We're sharing a connection with the MIL, and I don't wanna hog the thing. Do it 8 my time, she's on the treadmill.
  • 17:50:57: @blindingbright Ray is a foul-mouthed bastard, but damned if I don't wanna scratch him behind the ears like a puppy.
  • 19:11:10: @sewdotcoe I'm in central time. I have no idea which timezone you're in.
  • 20:12:08: Am online, if anyone is bored.
  • 21:54:49: Tomorrow, I'm gonna write, "Kyle goes to Guy's for dinner," for the HSAU. It will be AWKWARD.
  • 22:01:54: @sewdotcoe Any luck on 1949 AU? And if not, E-mail me so I can help!
  • 22:35:29: Power Rangers on crack_van? Oh, yes, my super-dork is showing. BRING IT!
  • 22:36:59: There's a fic on my flist with a title from a Tim McGraw song. Do not want.

So now that the awful class of awful is over, I'm thinking of writing a paper about The Boys as a piece of post-9/11 literature and anyway, just for the hell of it. And possibly try and publish it, just as a fuck-you to my Prof. Would you mind reading a draft? (When I write it, that is.)

I would love to read a draft! And you've reminded me I need to format my media analysis paper for publication. Pain in my ass, that thing. But damn, if it wasn't good work.

Yay! Now I just need to write it...HA. I planned on getting SO much writing done this summer and...not so much.

Oh, cool, what's it about, if you don't mind me asking?

I love writing a good paper. It's such an awesome feeling. And I only admit to this because I know you won't laugh at me, lol.

I wrote mine for a media analysis class, and the official subtitle was, "Female comic books fans and reactions to character death," and my study was on seeing how female comic book fans reacted to character deaths and to see what they considered fridgings. I'd never done a paper like that before, and while it had some snafus, it came out really well. The prof, after I presented it, said to me, "Get it published. This is thesis-level work." Which, it turns out, was not the level he was wanting, but guaranteed me an A.

Oh, god, I love writing a good paper. We're both type-A overachievers, aren't we? Or, at least, I know I am.

Oh man, that's awesome! I like the title, and the subject. You should let me read it (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Oh god, I totally am. The worst part is I pretend I'm not. And to be fair, when it comes to things that don't interest me, I am sort of an ADHD shit. But the stuff I'm passionate about, which is everything at the grad level, I'm obsessive about. I have a friend who has been my friend since high school, when I was a solid C student, who when she found out I was taking classes over the summer for fun was like, 'who the HELL are you?!'

Whiiiich is why I want a PhD. LALA. Ugh, we're crazy.

God, we are totally nuts, aren't we? I will get a PhD, but it won't be for years. For my field, you don't get a PhD unless you want to teach for a living, and while I think I could at some point, I don't want my options chopped off. But when I do, holy christ, I'm thinking of going to Michigan Tech, where they RENT YOU SNOW SHOES because it snows that much. I want to go to a place where bronchitis is pretty much a SURE THING for me because it's a top ten program, and I know I'm that good.

I will happily toss you a copy of my super-wordy paper. It was, I think, 5 pages over what it was supposed to be. Whoops. Where would you like it?

LOL! Hey, good for you for embracing the snow shoes. I kind of want to throw up thinking of applying to PhD programs (I feel like I JUST applied to MFA programs, god dammit) but in Lit, obviously, a PhD ensures tenure more easily than just an MFA. And to be fair, I'm enjoying my critical writing way more than my fiction lately. I don't see why I shouldn't do both. But yeah, if it's just for teaching in your field why not put it off until you're ready to teach, that's what my one Accountant friend is doing. At forty he's trading corporate work for a jacket with elbow pads, apparently.

Hey, whatever, page lengths are totally arbitrary. My Band of Brothers / The Pacific BITCH FEST paper was heinously over the limit as well. Meh. Email is fine, [email protected] :)

This is why I love grad school and the internet. The comfort of knowing you're not the ONLY insane person out there who enjoys essay writing.
