Albert has gotten used to earplugs. At each turn, one or both of them have seen their way through to a solution. Calvin and Hobbes

The Roommate of +10 Confusion
Pairing: None
Summary: There must be some scientifically sound way for Jason Fox to be able to quantify his new college roommate, but he hasn't found one yet that fits. Especially when he factors in the stuffed tiger.

My notes: Jason Fox from Foxtrot meets Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, and it is AWESOME. Jason is absolutely confused about Calvin and his weirdness, and Calvin is--as always--completely unaware. I can really see both of them ending up like this in college, and I love it.

This kid I once knew
Pairing: None
Summary: Daniel sends their whole improv group an e-mail saying "check this out its fun1!1" and a link to a web comic called The Adventures of Spaceman Spiff.

My notes: I love Susie in this--far enough away from Calvin's every day influences that she remembers him a little fondly, and that she doesn't explain him because people don't quite get it.

Well, hrm. That was short. I found a longfic in Mighty Ducks (Filed under 'D' thanks to the movie title shortenings), so that'll go on the longfic list. It's not that stuff in the Ds and Es doesn't look interesting, but I'm trying to be a little bit picky with my options. Just for funsies.

30 Rock
Shooting Stars, Satellites, and Other Flaming Wreckage That Falls Out of the Sky
Pairing: Liz/Pete
Summary: Pete raised his hand up, palm out, and Liz held hers up too. They air high-fived across her office and for the first time in twenty-two hours, things were normal.

My notes: SO THEM. Awkward and a little weird and a nice, non-touchy ending.

A-Team (Original Flavor)

Let it Snow
Pairing: None (Face and Murdock being buddies)
Summary: Murdock and Face end up snowed in for Christmas.

My notes: Another case of SO THEM. Murdock is goofy and Face is secretly a very sweet guy, and there's a snowball fight and Billy the Invisible Dog!

Archer (the FX series)
Quoting Herman Melville Never Did Anyone a Bit of Good
Pairing: Lana/Cyril on the side, overall an ensemble piece.
Summary: Archer is a hostage, Cyril is crying, Malory is yelling, and Cheryl thinks she's black. All in a day's work at ISIS.

My notes: Everyone is so spot-on, and the whole thing is hilarious, and everyone gets at least one funny line.

Archie (Comics)
Friends Don't Let Friends Suffer Alone
Pairing: Betty/Veronica
Summary: The problem with friends is that they plot against you.

My notes: Every year I am thrilled to find a delicious piece of angst in the Archie world, and this year is no exception. Oh, tortured teenage love, how delicious you are.

Baby-Sitters Club
Elizabeth's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Dates
Pairing: Elizabeth (Kristy's mother)/various bad dates
Summary: Kristy's mom hasn't had the greatest luck when it comes to dates.

My notes: This is funny and sweet and a little bit painful, but in a good way. The ending is lovely, and there's even a couple of cameos of people you already know from the books, including a much younger (but still very in charge) Kristy.

Back to the Future
Alternates
Pairing: None
Summary: Marty's life isn't at all like how he left it.

My notes: Very nice balance of confusion and some sadness from Marty as he considers the family he had before and the family he has now. Very sweet and warm.

Batman Beyond
Birth of a Lioness
Pairing: None
Summary: Six months after Terry started working for Mr. Wayne the second time, Commissioner Gordon brought Matt home from school.

My notes: It's one of those great stories where you see that Terry's mom has suspected things are weird with his job for Mr. Wayne, but now she knows, and it makes all the difference. A lovely discovery piece.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Shades of Bittersweet
Pairing: Belle/Gaston
Summary: What if Belle married Gaston? A series of vignettes set ten years after Gaston's ultimatum.

My notes: My heart is in a hundred tiny pieces, and I would read this again and again and again. Everyone is perfectly encapsulated in their moment, and I feel for Gaston. I really do.

Bioshock
they shake the mountains when they dance
Pairing: None
Summary: Around her, the splicers scream.

My notes: Were I not determined to say something useful, I'd just write THIS and carry on. The atmosphere is there, as is the pain and the sadness and that odd sweetness between a Little Sister and a Big Daddy. THIS.
perpetual_motion: awww wookit Kyle's face! (kyle's a real boy!)
Because I have homework I don't wanna do.

Marked -- Dan/Rorschach -- "This will cement his choices once and for all, demanding commitment like nothing else could."

A lovely little fic set early in the partnership. Rorschach manages to get injured on his back, so Dan has to help him, and there are [dun, dun, dun] revelations. It's all about Rorschach trying to feel guilty and Dan already knowing him well enough to know how to react.

W-ALTER -- Dan/Rorschach -- W-ALTR is a robot designed to fight crime who takes up vigilantism to fulfil his programming. Daniel is a vigilante with an interest in machines. A look at their relationship through the years.

Okay, it's a WIP, and it hasn't been updated since June, but it's well-written and an AU where Rorschach is a robot, and the place it currently ends is very sweet and a nice bit of closure to the previous chapters. Also, did I mention that Rorschach is a ROBOT?

perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (sexy jack brings sexy back)
And it keeps going! Aren't you excited?

Jurassic Park (specifically 3)
Chaos Theory--(Billy/Alan)--Four years on, Alan and Billy receive an unwanted gift.

Keen Eddie
More Than Friends--(Eddie/Monty)--Eddie finally gets a clue.

Life on Mars (UK)
The Fools on the Hill--(Gene/Sam)--Put together, they shouldn't work. But they do.

Mad Men
The Name on the Door--For a week, Joan has a little helper in the new office. "You're going to do far more than answer phones."

It's Magnificent--A day in the life of a doctor's wife.

A Little Brown-Haired Bride--Peggy isn't entirely sure what she wants, but she knows when she doesn't have it.

Please Please Me--Two months after the ending of Season 3, Peggy and Sal run into each other at a party.

MASH
Good Advice is Meant to be Shared--(Hawkeye/Sidney)--Sidney comes to the 4077 for some dinner and a little help taking his own advice.

Nancy Drew (Books)
A Yellowed Paper Heart--Ned Nickerson hates being in love with Nancy Drew.

We're gonna call it a day there, folks. I've still got the rest of the Ns to get through (for a start), but I think I've given you enough to review for right now.
perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (squee!)
And now, onto the Hs!

Hard Core Logo
All That Never Changes--(Billy/Joe)--When Billy saw Joe's dead body laid out on the concrete, he laughed.

Take me Out of This Frozen Season--(Billy/Joe)--It's a year later, and the Hard Core Logo documentary is about to be released. Billy doesn't want to watch it, but isn't really given another choice. (Spoilers for movie.)

Hardy Boys
Our Red Sea--Your father's gone. Don't lose your brother too.

Harriet the Spy (Book)
Claimed Spaces--A semi-impromptu spy route for Harriet, set approximately ten years from the end of the original novel.

Horatio Hornblower (TV)
Red and Blue Roses--An explanation for why the wardroom redecorated Hornblower's cabin in "Hornblower and the Hotspur".

Hot Fuzz
Crossed Wires--(Danny/Nicholas)--In which property damage is very wrong, and our heroes worry unnecessarily.

After the Explosions, the Days--(Danny/Nicholas)--"There was sort-of-knowing and there was knowing-knowing, and Nicholas had stopped making sense even in his own head." Nicholas and Danny moving forward.

DIY for Beginners--(Danny/Nicholas)--Danny is worried that the temptations of the big city will lure Nicholas back to London, but what can Sandford offer that will tempt him to stay?

Home for the Holidays--(Danny/Nicholas)--There's no place like home for the holidays, but what if you're not quite sure where home is?

There's some good stuff in the Is, but nothing I feel like linking over. I'm mostly aiming for stuff that either gut punches me or makes me all gooey, so stuff that's just really good and interesting isn't quite making the list. But if you think I might have missed something, tell me so!
perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (picturing you naked)
In case you're curious, I do plan to work my way through the alphabet. To give you an idea of the size of this thing, I signed up to write for 60 or 70 fandoms this year. I can't recall, exactly, but it was a LOT. So I read a lot. And it's awesome.

Again, I'm not reading every last thing in the fandoms I rec, and if you think I missed something good, tell me!

Dead Poets Society
Know How to Speak--(Todd/Neil)--Silence is just as important.

In Motion--(Todd/Neil)--Neil Perry is not, in fact, a very talented poet. It is rather intimidating to find out that his roommate is.

Of Eyes that Crave the Light--Todd's forty years old, and the past comes back to him on a cold day in Manhattan.

Dirty Dancing
A Real Grown-Up Name--(Baby/Johnny)--Frances Houseman always wanted to change the world.

Doctor Who RPF
So Fearless, You're Filthy, Except When You Fail--(David Tennant/John Simm)--John Simm hates actors; David Tennant is a mercurial freak. Everyone else has commentary.

Fame
Embody the Earth--(Montgomery/Ralph)--Montgomery MacNeil gets his happy ending.

Fried Green Tomatoes
And Your People Shall Be My People--(Idgie/Ruth)--'My son will grow up with a name he can be proud to bear,' Ruth said. 'He has no right to the name Jamison – as you have pointed out,' she continued, 'and while there remains breath in my body he will not be subjected to the indignity of the name of Bennett.'

Glee
Angel with a Pint Glass--(Kurt/Finn)--Finn grins and waves and he looks so genuinely pleased to see him, that Kurt feels a little ridiculous for not seeking him out weeks ago.

Well, D-G; that's pretty good work. Yay, me! What are you reading, flist? Even if it's not Yuletide, I'm very curious.
perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (awesome!)
Like before, I'm not reading every last piece in every fandom. Either I'm being lazy and think it's too long, or I'm not interested in what some people wrote. And, again, if you think I should be reading a certain story, drop me a note. I like recs as much as the next person!

We're gonna cover B-C today, I think.

Baby-Sitters Club
Stacey's Seriously Bad Decision--(Stacy McGill/Charlotte Johanssen)--Stacey's pretty sure that falling for someone you used to babysit is totally not OK.

Beauty and the Beast (Disney)
Bittersweet--(Belle/Beast)--Some stories do not always have happy endings...

Rose Without Thorns--(Bella/Adam (Beast))--Belle is not as happy as she thinks she should be. Then again, maybe she is.

Bend it Like Beckham
Five Days, Five Months--(Jess/Jules)--Coming to the US was the last thing Jess thought would put a rift in her relationship with Jules, but the moment she arrives everything starts to change.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

MR. Yunioshi's Photographs--The life and times of Mr. Yunioshi, and why he lets Holly Golightly stay in her apartment rent-free. (Otherwise: can we make Mr. Yunioshi more of a character and less of an offensive caricature?)

Such a Lot--He was serious, a serious man. Always frowning. And if that accentuated the eyes, well, it's not that he did it on purpose.

Breakfast Club
Most Likely To---(Brian/Bender)--People liked stories to have a trajectory. Upward or downward, they liked a journey. So if there had been gossip after the reunion, Brian's life might have looked something like this.

Cable & Deadpool
The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Special--...summary? Is that like a recap page? Huh. Okay. I'm Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth. You may remember me from such comics as "Deadpool," "Deadpool," and "Cable & Deadpool," and from my brief appearance in Wolverine's first solo movie, which for now makes me Marvel's latest license to print money -- thank you, Ryan Reynolds. Anyway, now I'm in a Yuletide story, so join me and my buddy Nate Summers, aka Cable, for wacky hijinks and reality-hopping adventure. Say hi to the fangirls, Nate.

"Wade? Who are you talking to?"

Calvin and Hobbes
Everyday is a Reminder--(Calvin/Susie)--There's a certain fear that some children share as they grow up, that whatever they do will never be as good as what's come before. Among all the other things he will ever be, Calvin has never been one of those kids.

The Lengthy Dimly Lit Coffee Break of the Psyche--Calvin looks for a job. Hobbes and Susie look after Calvin.

Casino Royale (2006)
Gifts--(Bond/M)--Usually Bond and M save the world. But sometimes, just sometimes, they go shopping.

If Headaches Persist, Shoot Your Agent--(Bond/M)--Bond's a headache even at the best of times, but he's M's headache.

I may get around to the Ds tonight. I've currenly got nine tabs open under the Ds. I need to rewatch "Dead Poets Society."
perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (make with the sex eyes)
As I read stuff, I'm gonna rec stuff. I'm being mildly lazy and sticking to shorter stuff, so if you read something you think I would have liked, it may just be that it was longer than I wanted to read at the moment. Drop me a note to check it out!

There are all the fandoms that start with numbers and the letter A. These are not all the Yuletide fandoms that fall under that umbrella; just the ones I read.

30 Rock

Read this.

It's Cedric/Harry. Harry comes out as bi, and it makes Cedric realize he's gay. It's touching and sweet, and Harry's kind of a cheeky bastard.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to beat up the last couple of scenes.

::pushes up sleeves::

The Fisher King

Percy/Moody; it's equal parts heartbreaking, sweet, and rough. Picks up post-book 5 and carries on through the rest of the series. The ending gives me massive warm fuzzies.
perpetual_motion: hang yourself please (i really fucking do)
Would like to murder the fucking contract people whose response to our "When can we expect you on Monday" was, "Oh, just because they say we'll be there on Monday doesn't mean we'll be there on Monday."

I wish I were kidding.

But, you know what? I have wicked-hot Snape/Hermione porn to rec, and just enough of a wireless signal to do it. It's called "Tequila Shots". I found it at [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom, and my personal synopsis goes like this:

Snape and Draco run a bar. Harry and Hermione come in one night. Draco decides to shag Harry, and Snape had Hermione have ridiculously hot sex in a supply closet.

This story gets +5 awesome for writing Hermione as someone who is smart and comfortably sexual, as opposed to the "Eeek, a penis!" way she's sometimes written. Good times. Good, smutty times. It has made the day infinitely better.

EDIT: Oh, for fuck's sake, you probably want the link, right?

Here you go

Fucking hell.

Higher Education by Resonant

GUH.

I've read this once before but managed to find it again this week and have read it twice in the past five days. Jesus H. it's hot. HOT. And not only that, but it's a fantastic look at what happens after. Bender grows up [mostly]. Brian finds confidence [and fixes that lamp], and it's such a great look at the two of them after. It feels so believable to the canon, and there's even a cameo by Vernon [so spot on I hurt a little]. They're also written like guys, and I love that.

Just lovely.

Guy/Tora [Green Lantern II/Ice]

Tora dominates Guy. Go read it.

Or, in case you need more incentive:

Tora dominates Guy, and it's in character and sweet.

Also, I think it does a good job of showcasing how domination is an enjoyable, mutually satisfying sexual activity that is perfectly natural. I've always preferred by domination scenarios to be handled like legitimate sex acts, rather than some crazy fetish*.

*I won't define "crazy fetish", because what I think constitutes a crazy fetish is probably something that someone else enjoys in their sex play.

In regards to the MASH FIC OF DOOM [or MFoD, if you're so inclined]: I've decided that the epilogue is completely unnecessary and pulls away from the fic itself, so no epilogue. I'll have to live with 14,000+ word count. Anyone needs me, I'll be crying into my pillow [/sarcasm]

In regards to cheesy love songs and recs, they come in a package. I love movies, which I know is no secret, but I absolutely love semi-cheeseball movies that are earnest and fun and just overall enjoyable to watch. One of my favorites is the 1993 "The Three Muskeeteers" that was put out by Disney. I know some of you remember it. It was Keifer Sutherland, Oliver Platt [one of my top ten actors], Charlie Sheen, and Chris O'Donnell. The movie is just a cheese-tastic good time. And it includes what pajiba.com [a bitchin' movie review site] has named the Cheesiest Soundtrack Single of All Time, and oh, but they're right. It's a total cheese-fest, and the video, it's so 199X, with X representing a number less than or equal to 5. And I kept expecting Brian Adams to kiss Sting, but maybe that's just me [Seriously, watch the video].

As for that rec, long ago and far away [wait, wrong song [10 points if you get that]], the no-longer-fic-writing [livejournal.com profile] julianlee wrote a "The Three Muskeeteers" fic that was part movie/part book, all awesome. It's entitled An Eternity Without You, and if you can get past the fact that it's Disney slash, I do believe you'll find that it's lovely. The fact that I goaded her into it only sweetens the deal.

And now, that video [Bless thee, YouTube, for you are always giving and gracious]:

Big thanks to the "Pirates" fans who stepped up. After posting for help here I remembered I was part of [livejournal.com profile] sparrington, and they helped me find the Jack/Norrington. [Yes, I had forgotten I belonged to the comm. Yes, they're on my flist. Shut it.]

So I give you, without further ado [and without titles because I only saved the links], the fics:

Groves/Gilette, although she calls him Bush

AKA Lieutenant slash. Very cute and sweet and all kinds of cozy. Written as an off-shoot to a much larger, incredibly impressive set of fics that are Jack/Norrington. The link to the big story is in the author's notes of this one and if you've time, you should totally read it.

Jack/Norrington, with a nice dose of h/c.

AKA The fic that makes me wibby. It's a short piece [with a short sequel in her memories], and it's Norrington and Jack, with Norrington being very injured when he's brought on the Pearl. The big thing about this one is that there's no dialogue through most of it, but it's still brilliant.
