Wanna Get Ficced?

So, apparently, there have been four police-involved shootings in my city in the last two weeks. This has led to an anti-police protest in my city because the cops have basically been handed a shit sandwich over the last couple of weeks.

Let's look at the people who got nailed, shall we?

Guy #1 gets killed by police because he's threatening his neighbors with a handgun. After the fact, it's discovered the handgun is fake. This is still justified lethal force. The cops came in, watched a situation, and had to make a call. You know what the guy could have done? Put down the fake gun. But he didn't, and he was threatening to harm people. Fully justifiable.

Guy #2 was wielding a machete. Cops tried to taser him and beanbag him. When that didn't work, they shot him. Fully justifiable.

Guy #3 actually didn't get shot. The officer missed, but he was firing at a dude who had--if the scant information I can find on it is correct--just fucking murdered someone. Fully justifiable.

Guy #4 was threatening someone with a knife. Cops tried to taser him. It didn't work. They had to shoot him because he kept advancing on them. Fully justifiable.


And, of course, rather than anyone here actually looking at the facts or understanding how the rules of lethal force work for police officers, they bitch and moan and scream and yell about how AWFUL the cops are because they have to occasionally SHOOT PEOPLE in order to SAVE OTHER PEOPLE.

I'm not turning a blind eye to shitty cops. Shitty cops exist. But they exist in such tiny, tiny quantities to all the honestly good cops out there. Yes, police departments were rife with corruption at one point. In the SEVENTIES. GET OVER IT. Day to day, I hear absolutely nothing about how anyone feels about the police here. But once they have to do the hard job, HOW DARE THEY EXIST.

New rule: You think all cops are douchebags who will shoot you as soon as look at you? You don't get protected by cops anymore. No one to pull over the drunk who might swerve into you while you're riding your bike. No one to comfort you if you have an accident. No one to help you compile a list of all the things that were stolen from your apartment, and no one to blame when you break the fucking law and get arrested for possession. None for you. At all.
