J.T. Krul is the new Judd Winick

My feelings on DC's hate-boner for the Arrow Clan has been well-documented. [Video ranting, Written ranting. My feelings on Winick are so well-documented, they have their own tag.

I hate Winick. A lot. Like, a super-duper, double-load, send-him-a-shit-in-a-hat lot. And I am utterly amazed at how quickly Krul has managed to climb down the ladder of expectations into the scum beneath the bottom of the barrel where Winick lives.

How did he do it, you ask? Well, he's currently writing "The Rise of Arsenal," wherein Roy Harper, the original Speedy in the Arrow Clan, is about to go evil because his daughter was fridged, and he had his arm ripped off. Full disclosure: I was already ready to hate it. In fact, I was so ready to hate it I refused to read it. Which is why, rather than give you another four paragraphs of rage, I'm going to link you to the Comics Alliance post on the matter. Chris Sims (who was brave enough to introduce the wider world to haunted vaginas), has been reading it, and he gets the rage out nicely and makes all the points I'd have made with a great deal more capslock rage.

Good to know that no matter who they throw the pen to, there's always someone at DC ready to shit on a set of good heroes. Bravo, you fuckers. Bravo.

I was on AIM with [livejournal.com profile] pervyficgirl after she read the 3rd Rise of Arsenal. Just seeing her rant about made me want to rage and cry because wow. Just wow. And lots of ow. D:

...and I can't hate Winick. He's the only person thus far that has shown he can write Jason Todd consistently. And will hopefully prove this again tomorrow with Red Hood: Lost Days #1. *hugs Jason and keeps him away from Daniel and Morrison*

I have never read any of the Jason Todd stuff, so I can't speak to it. I will admit to liking some of Winick's work on "Outsiders," but he basically spent his time on GA/BC ruining everything about that book, and we're in a grudge match now.

:/ The Jason Todd stuff is good. He probably should lay off the Arrows, since they're just two different beasts. I've read his latest Batman stuff (right before Daniel's shitty run of 'Dick has no personality as Batman'), and it was pretty good.

And his Batman: Under the Hood stuff is gonna be made into an animated movie this summer. I recommend it.

I liked Winick on Bats until the very end with the flash drive, and that just brought back the rage. I have no idea what Tony Daniel's been doing on Batman during his run. I get he pretty much had to do the Black Mask thing, but 698 and 699 were just a hot mess of stupid, and Dick's just kinda there to fill out the suit while Damien is there to make me crazy. This is why I like Red Robin. Tim is interesting, and he occasionally punches Damien in the face.

*looks back on the hard drive bit* :/ Meh, before I checked the cover, I almost felt it was Daniel's work. It does have Daniel's Batman!Two-Face in it, so maybe that issue was more of Winick transitioning into the next writer? Bah, whatever. Daniel is a hot mess and should stop, period. He wrote BftC and fucked up Jason, and hell, he couldn't write anyone else either! Ugh, BftC gave me so much rage.

See, I hated Damian too until I read him in Streets of Gotham? He kinda grows in that one (and gets a boyfriend friend and gives him a motorcycle without telling Dick-). In anything else, I still wanna punch him in the face (other than in the last issue of B&R where I wanna punch Morrison in the face for terrible Talia characterization with her son).

Red Robin is awesome. Now, there's a book where Jay could fit in. His interactions with Tim are always interesting, and Red Robin was Jason's first; I'd love to see the reactions to that with a face to face, sane meeting.

What do you recommend in the Jason Todd runs? I'm always willing to give a new character a shot (Just read through the Jaime BB in a DAY, if that gives you any indication).

Okay, you're making me look like a wishy-washy bastard: I forgot about Damien in SoG and that i liked him. This is how comics work for me: If I really love or hate something, I can tell you all the reasons why, but then someone will say, "But what about X," and I'll conceed, and that leads to further conversations about what I've forgotten.

Let's not talk about BftC. There is not enough Locks-Rage in the world for that pile of trouble.

Definitely Under the Hood. A Death in the Family. And Countdown to Final Crisis. I love Countdown, especially the side bits like Search for Ray Palmer: Red Rain. Actually, all of the Search for Ray Palmer was interesting. Countdown shows how the Red Robin costume came to be (outside of Kingdom Come, anyway), and Jason's reaction to a Bruce on an Earth where this Bruce actually kills Joker after his death. I also recommend the few issues that Jason showed up in Robin before it ended. Nicieza had a good grasp of Jason, I think.

Lol. I didn't want to like him; I was holding out, but no. Streets of Gotham got me with his little boyfriend Colin.

Yes, I concur on this. I had lots of caps lock rage over that last year. Some of the side bits (mainly the Arkham one) that Daniel wasn't writing were okay. That's all I concede (other than giving me 'Be my Robin' which is now a marriage proposal in my head).
