Story Time!

I told this story to [livejournal.com profile] shoshannagold last night and promised to pass it along.

We were talking about resumes in my night class last night, and a few students were asking about how to put their international experience on their resumes. The prof was telling them how it's fantastic they have international experience, and how important that is to make very clear on one's resume.

A guy raised his hand and said:

"This question is going to sound weird."

Which caused all of us to have a good chuckle. And the guy follows it up, without any other introduction, with:

"How credible is Canada?"

To which I blurted out without thinking:

"You mean, like, as a country?"

He was speaking about how it looks to have been to Canada for international experience, given the general view in America is that Canada is alternately our hat or our attic. It was decided that Canada, being a different country, is worthy of the international travel sticker, and so is, in fact, credible.

Which brings me to this:

BAHAHAHAHA.

I can say that, as a country, we are HIGHLY credible. Just not really that difficult to get to.

It's because you're so polite, eh.

(It had to be done.)

*blink*

I love your reaction. <3

I would've totally replied to your WBOA entries, but my computer at home locks up when I try to watch videos. :(

Oh, boo. Have you emptied your tempory files cache recently? Youtube likes to freeze on me sometimes, and clearing my cache usually does the trick. Either that or a restart.

Oh, if only it were that simple. For the past week or so, I've had to deal with my computer freezing up on me, usually when I'm watching videos (either on sites like narutoget.com or youtube.com, or videos that I've downloaded and watching on VLC, Winamp, or Windows Media Player). It started after I updated my Firefox (the new version didn't like LJLogin), and then I did a Windows update with no discernable difference.

Not only that, but if I leave my computer idle, but with the screen off, it will freeze after a while. The restart button has become my friend.

I've opened the case, vacuumed inside, dusted inside very carefully with paper towels, I've shaken the keyboard upside down a few times to get the crud out (haven't gotten a chance to get canned air). Emptied the cookies, run CHKDSK (it froze up once, but the second time worked), did a disk defragmentation on my C drive.

So far, no dice. I'm thinking it might be a virus, but my AVG has been updating like it usually does, and it hasn't caught any viruses when it's checked for any. There's been a few unspecified errors, which make AVG want to run a diagnostic, but so far, those haven't panned out.

Oh, and my Firefox has gotten into the habit of Not Responding the first time I open it, to the point where I have to click the red X and tell the program to End Now before I can open it without a problem.

...

So. Yeah.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to get a full install? I sometimes find that updates screw around with bits of code and mess things up that were previously working...

[identity profile] leaper182.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't actually. I should go ahead and try that. I was a bit worried about doing something like that because I don't know if I have a version of Firefox that isn't cracked? I mean, my sister and mom ended up setting up the computer for me, and it had Firefox on it when I got it.

But. Yes. That is a very sensible idea, and I really hope that Firefox stops being a dick. *firm nod*

Thanks for the advice. :D

Well, Firefox is freeware so it doesn't matter if you uninstall and reinstall it.

Yikes.

I have no suggestions, but damned if you haven't done everything and more that I would have suggested anyway.

Aww.
