Airport Snarkery
By Perpetual Motion

The bright red letters of ‘DELAYED’ nearly made Anderson lose his mind. He glared at the rain through the window of the terminal and wished it a speedy, gruesome death. It’d been clear all week but now that he needed good weather, it was pouring buckets.

“Excuse me?”

Anderson turned and almost grimaced at the woman who was smiling at him. Brunette, tiny shirt, tight jeans. A voice in his head that sounded suspiciously like Keith called her a trollop and wondered on the possibility of a tramp stamp with a butterfly. “Can I help you with something?” he asked, ruthlessly pushing down the Keith-voice.

“Are you Anderson Cooper?”

“Yes, I am.” The Keith-voice in Anderson’s head gave an annoyed groan.

“Ohmigod! I love your show! I saw your Katrina coverage…”

The Keith voice called for a drink.

“…your autograph?”

Anderson snapped back to the conversation in time to take the pen and paper from her hands and sign his name. “There you go. Thanks for watching.”

“Oh, god, thank you!” She leaned in a little. The Keith-voice in his head ran away screaming.

“Do not smudge the pretty boy.”

Anderson turned at Keith’s actual voice. “How the hell did you get here?”

“Plane. You’re in an airport, Andy. Even you must have some journalistic intuition.”

Anderson felt himself grinning. “You’re supposed to be delayed.”

“The board lied. Probably works for Fox.” Keith glanced over to the woman who was still standing nearby. “Let me guess-journalism major?”

She blinked. “Yes?”

“Ever hear of a man named Edward R. Murrow?”

“Is he on NPR?”

Anderson burst out laughing. Keith kicked him in the foot and spoke to the woman. “You can go away now.”

“But-“

“Go away. Give up journalism. Buy a shirt that fits.”

“Fuck you.”

Keith grinned. “I take it back. Stay in journalism. Apply to Fox.”

“Hello, by the way,” Anderson said as the woman ran off.

“Hi,” Keith’s eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled. “God, it’s good to be home.”

“Good to have you,” Anderson said as he led the way to baggage claim.

“Go away. Give up journalism. Buy a shirt that fits.”

Oh how I love that line!

This is just what I needed tonight. I miss your pundit stories!

I'm glad I could make your night better. :)

I've missed my pundits, so it was nice to drag them back into my brain.

I loved that line too. It was great fun to write.

So, you liked it then? :)

You know anyone who dates Keith probably can't get his voice out of their head. I know I wouldn't try.

*cowers in a corner*

I have a bad feeling that, with infinite time, energy, and torrents, I could be talked into any sort of fandom, shipping anything, if only one of my friends tells me about it. ^^

(That's how I ended up at [livejournal.com profile] mac_hearts_pc...)

I know that feeling. I know it very, very well.
